Each customer is provided a VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) for their servers. This means that if you have one server or ten servers, only your servers will see your broadcast traffic, and these servers are isolated from other servers broadcast traffic on the network.

Each rack in the data center has its own switch to manage the VLANs for the servers on the rack. These rack switches are connected to the core switch for the entire network via full duplex 100 megabit ethernet connections (and in some cases 1 gigabit ethernet connections as we have newer switches).

All switches have onsite spares in the event that one fails, the unit can be quickly swapped out and be back up and running as soon as possible.
